Today’s lesson we begun our Drawing for Games Module, in this we will learn how to create a successful and innovative Game Design Document. As a Concept Artist it is your job to create the idea of the game and pitch it to the gaming companies. Key Elements found within the Document are Game Layout Charts , Storyboards, GUI (Graphical User Interface), Model Sheets and Level Charts.

As a starter to the session we got split into two teams in which we had to decide on 12 games and write them down we then played pictionary and using the games provided by the other team we had to draw out for our team what the game was. Playing the game i noticed that the other team picked harder games to draw which would make it difficult for our team to guess. Where as we had games which had iconic symbols such as the Zelda triforce symbol which made it a lot easier for the other team to guess correctly.
After the short ice breaker we were given a picture of Jimi Hendrix in which we had to draw the picture we saw and then draw it again but this time with the picture upside down. When drawing the picture upside down we had to try and visually forget that we saw a face and instead just focus on the shapes. This exercise was used to get both sides of our brain working because in the module we will need to learn both creative and technical drawing skills.
It’s strange once we had a look around at everyone’s drawings we noticed that about 50% of the drawings done upside down was better than the ones which were done the right way up, its quite interesting how the brain works and how different people if their own styles and techniques. In my drawings i noticed how similar they both look except that the upside down drawing looked more older with bigger cheek bones and lips.
